The Waterways and Shipping Administration of the Federal Government of Germany (WSV) is a technical organisation subordinate to the Federal Ministry of Transport and digital Infrastructure (BMVI). It is responsible for operation, maintenance and administration of the Federal waterways and its facilities (such as locks, weirs, ship lifts, canal bridges, …) including new construction and adequate development. The Waterways and Shipping Administration also is the river and shipping police authority.
